PART HI '5 AND ARTISTS EJNAR HANSEN—His painting, "Mexican Still Life," just won two awards in Pasadena Society of Artists' annual exhibit, is now seen in his one-man show at Biltmore. Floral Ait Praised Ejnar Hansen began as a flower painter in his native Denmark and flowers make the strongest impression in his current exhibition at the Biltmore Art Gallery until April 24. The flower canvases are at once the most informal and the most, charming things on view. In these Hansen seems to keep his very considerable knowledge of form and color in the background and to let himself go as a painter. The results are some of the best flower pieces ever ■ done here. They are rich in color, free in treatment and the brush work matches the bold forms but almost shrinkingly sensitive substance of flowers. Of his landscapes I liked best "Eaton, Canyon."' a water color With touches of opaque. Hansen's painterly scholarship is shown in the single large figure canvas, "Model Resting." Note the fine drawing and modeling and the way in which he combines color, drawing and texture 10 rich effect. The two still lifes of fruit and vegetables further exhibit his ability to carry a complex design through to rich conclusions. And the small head of' a girl, done in water color, is something one remembers long after leaving the gallery. A. M.
