Introduction
The following pages of this two-part Portfolio
and Catalog describe the curricula at the Otis
Art Institute of Parsons School of Design in
Los Angeles. The flip-side of the book does
the same for Otis' sister institution, Parsons
School of Design in New York.
The union of these two distinguished
colleges of the arts has added a dimension
to American education in the arts that is
unparalleled in the history of higher learning.
It makes possible the exchange of students,
faculty, exhibitions, and, most importantly,
ideas, between our country's two most vital
art centers.
Although the Otis sections of this publication briefly describes Parsons' New York
programs, applicants to either campus are
urged to read the entire book carefully, for
material in each section amplifies and
reinforces material that is sometimes presented only sketchily in the other.
The existence of Otis/Parsons is one of the
landmarks in American Art Education and we
at the college look forward to sharing this
unique and exciting twin-coastal institution
with many new generations of art and design
students over the coming years.
