Programs of Study-Los Angeles Campus BFA& MFA Degrees The Otis campus of Parsons School of Design offers programs leading to the BFA degree in Fine Arts, Ceramics, Interior and Environmental Design, Fashion Design, and Communication Design and Illustration. The MFA is offered in Fine Arts and Ceramics. All undergraduate programs include the possibility of a full year of student exchange with similar curricula offered at the New York Campus, and it should be noted that, to make the exchange as simple as possible, course titles, descriptions and credit structures are identical on both coasts. It is the belief of the college that the change in faculty and in the artistic/intellectual climate the exchange program makes possible can profoundly enhance the diversity of an educational experience. Thus, the student who plans to take advantage of the exchange option can expect to benefit from a broad and comprehensive exposure to his area of interest. The MFA programs are described in a separate bulletin available through the Admissions Office. Evening and Weekend Division Courses The courses, degrees and majors described in this catalog are for full-time day students. However, there are many part-time, credit and non-credit courses offered in the evenings and on Saturdays. These offerings encompass most areas of the fine arts, art history and design. A catalog describing Evening and Saturday courses is published each term, approximately six weeks prior to the beginning of classes. The fall term begins in early September, while the spring semester starts at the end of January. Summer programs are offered as well, starting in early June. These catalogs are available from the Office of Continuing Education, Otis Art Institute of Parsons School of Design, 2401 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles, California 90057, or by calling 213-388-3128. Summer Courses for High School Students A special series of courses is available each summer, oriented towards high school students but offered for college credit. The courses are of particular value to students considering art or design on the college level who wish to gain information and guidance. These courses begin in early July and are of four to six weeks duration. Classes are offered in such areas as Painting, Drawing, Printmaking, Fashion Design, Photography, Environmental Design, Communication Design, Interior Design and a Foundation Program. For additional information and an announcement of these programs, write: Director of Continuing Education, Otis Art Institute of Parsons School of Design, 2401 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles, California 90057; or call: 213-388-3128. Parsons in Paris Parsons School of Design offers specially- designed four- and six-week courses in Paris each summer. Courses start approximately July 1 st and the cost (about $1500 to $1800 depending on length of course) includes charter air fare, double-occupancy accomodations, and course tuition. The Parsons in Paris program offers students the opportunity to pursue their own academic and studio interests while living in Paris' cultural center. Students can visit the Pompidou Museum, cathedrals and palaces of the 16th and 17th Century, and take outside excursions to such places as Versailles, Chantilly, Reims and Fontainebleau. Students may also meet with French artists, study master paintings in museums, see fashion collections, and see areas of Paris not often open to the general public. Further information may be obtained from Dean Salvadori, Parsons School of Design, 66 Fifth Avenue, New York, New York 10011, or by calling (212) 741-8953. |
