FACULTY MEMBERS MILLARD SHEETS DIRECTOR Born in Pomona, California, 1907. Graduated Chouinard Art Institute, Los Angeles, 1929. First one-man show, 1929. Has received 27 major awards throughout the country. Is represented in 42 major museums. Has completed more than 20 murals, illustrations for numbers of publications. Has been director of the Fine Arts Exhibition, Los Angeles County Fair, Pomona, since 1931. War artist, Life magazine, 1943-44. Has taught in many professional schools and universities. Was director of Art Department and Professor of Art, Scripps College, 1938-1954. JARVIS BARLOW ASSISTANT DIRECTOR Born in Berlin, Germany, 1900. A.B., University of California, Berkeley, 1923; M.F.S. (cum laude), Georgetown University, 1929. Taught English to German, French, and Spanish speaking people in Europe, 1929-34, 1935-37. Poetry published in various European papers. Book of poetry published, New York, 1941. Editor, Pan Magazine, Pasadena, 1940-41. Spanish radio program over KRKD, Los Angeles, 1940-41. Director, Pasadena Art Museum, 1943-46. Associate director, Modern Institute of Art, Beverly Hills, 1948-49. Lecturer, School of Architecture, University of Southern California, 1950-51. Art Critic, Pasadena Independent since 1947. ERNEST FREED HEAD OF GRAPHIC ARTS Born in Rockville, Indiana, 1908. Nationally known painter and graphic artist. Received education Indiana State Teachers College, University of Illinois. Did graduate work at the Pennsylvania Academy and University of Iowa. Holds degree in Education. Taught in various schools or colleges. Was Director of Art Education at University of Iowa, and Director of Art at Bradley University. Recipient of 10 major awards. Has participated in over 40 major exhibits: held 10 one-man shows. Represented in six major public collections and numerous important private collections. RICHARD HAINES HEAD OF PAINTING Born in Marion, Iowa, 1906. Nationally known painter. Studied Minneapolis School of Art, Minneapolis, and Ecole des Beau Arts Fon- tainbleau, France. Taught at the Minneapolis School of Art, 1941-42, Chouinard Art Institute, Los Angeles, 1945-52, San Antonio Art Institute. Recipient of 16 major awards, exhibited in 20 major museums: represented in eight museum collections. Completed 12 murals for public or private buildings. HERBERT JEPSON HEAD OF DRAWING Born in Fieldbrook, California, 1908. Widely known designer and draftsman. Received education Chouinard Art Institute, Los Angeles, and Art Institute of Chicago. Teaching experience covers 20-year period, as Instructor in Drawing and Illustration at Chouinard Art Institute, as Administrative Director and Instructor at the Jepson Art Institute, Los Angeles.
