COURSE DESCRIPTIONS DRAWING 1-101 — 3 UNITS Course provides a basic foundation in drawing as a form of creative expression through the interpretation of anatomy, construction, and design of nature forms as a root source for genuine knowledge and control. Special attention is paid to the individual's development not only in his awareness of the experience of seeing, but to the innerdependence of all his sensory responses to the accumulated heritage of information and art that the contemporary world offers. DRAWING H-201 — 2 UNITS Course will develop competence in the field of portraiture to insure precise control of the structure of individual characteristics in the head, hands, etc. In addition, the basic structure of animals, birds, and plant forms will be studied. Emphasis will be placed upon the nature and possibilities of various materials and media for drawing. DRAWING III-301 — 3 UNITS Course requires completion of Drawing I and II; requires the ability to evaluate the drawings and other art works of the past and the attitudes and circumstances under which they were created. Emphasis will be placed upon drawing as a process unseparated from other creative activities. Projects will direct the student toward an understanding of the relationship between structural articulation and design in nature as a clue to the formal order and composition of a total work of art. DESIGN 1-102 — 2 UNITS Course provides a thorough training in abstract picture organization: theories of form, color, space, value, line and texture will be analyzed. Work in various media is included. It is the prime purpose of this course to show the student that design is a discipline constituting a basic and integral part of all art form and organization. DESIGN 11-202 — 3 UNITS Principles gained in Design I will be applied in Design II. Course covers work m both representational and non-representational composition. Analysis and disciplined training in the field of lettering will be undertaken, relating it to the larger field of design, of which it constitutes one important expression. This course emphasizes the applied aspects of design and will include experience in several media. DESIGN III-302 — 2 UNITS Devoted entirely to specific problems of design as related to the fields of ceramics, sculpture, architecture, painting, and graphics. Course will also cover advanced work in lettering and typography. 28 |
