THE OTIS ART INSTITUTE OF THE MUSEUM OF HISTORY, SCIENCE AND ART occupies the beautiful residence of the late General Harrison Gray Otis, the distinguished journalist and proprietor of the "LOS ANGELES TIMES"' who presented his splendid estate overlooking Westlake Park to the County of Los Angeles for the advancement of Art in the West. The building has been remodeled so as to meet the requirements of a thoroughly modern and well-equipped art school. The aim of the School is to provide students with a sound technical training in the various branches of the Fine and Applied Arts; to teach them how to put this training to a practical use in the creation of a work of art; to develop originality, and to encourage them to seek the highest degree of artistic excellence. The School offers Courses of Instruction in— DRAWING AND PAINTING (three years). ILLUSTRATION (two years). DESIGN AND THE APPLIED ARTS (two years). To complete these Courses within the required time necessitates the attendance of the student for five whole days each week. A Certificate will be awarded in each of the Courses to students who have satisfactorily completed the Course.
