Description
Comprised
of
43
Los
Angeles
artists
this
exhibition
surveys
new
works
that are
personally
revelatory
,
confessional
, or
content-driven
. As
opposed
to the
attitudes
and
poses
generated
by the
notion
of "
cool
", the
show
delivers
works
that are
overheated
,
awkward
,
undeviating
,
stimulated
,
embarrassing
,
romantic
,
frightening
, and
genuine
. The
LA
artists
in this
exhibition
have
cast
off
the
protective
trappings
of
cool
. They are
attempting
to
get
beyond
the
academic
critique
of
mass
culture
and
cheap
accommodations
to
mainstream
tastes
.
Including
art
that
is
both
earnest
and
comical
,
heartfelt
and
fantastical
, the
exhibition
offers
routes
back
to
direct
expression
and
full
engagement
.
