Description	Comprised of 43 Los Angeles artists this exhibition surveys new works that are personally revelatory, confessional, or content-driven. As opposed to the attitudes and poses generated by the notion of "cool", the show delivers works that are overheated, awkward, undeviating, stimulated, embarrassing, romantic, frightening, and genuine. The LA artists in this exhibition have cast off the protective trappings of cool. They are attempting to get beyond the academic critique of mass culture and cheap accommodations to mainstream tastes. Including art that is both earnest and comical, heartfelt and fantastical, the exhibition offers routes back to direct expression and full engagement.
Notes	The initial concept for this exhibition was developed by the San Jose Museum of Art. LA Post-Cool was guest curated for San Jose Museum of Art and remixed for Ben Maltz Gallery by Michael Duncan.
