Description	Each work of art has been reproduced on the magazine's cover and displayed to millions of people around the world. Many of the covers shown testify to the fact that TIME has contributed much toward sustaining and developing portraiture as an original art form by commissioning hundreds of portraits since its first cover. TIME cover artists innovate continually to capture the mood of whatever personality or event is considered important enough to be featured on the cover. The artistic and graphic techniques employed range widely across a spectrum that includes painting, sculpture, collage, design and photography.
