Description	Crossed Purposes was a two-person exhibition of large-scale paintings/collages created by Joyce Kozloff and the photography by Max Kozloff. Kozloff’s painting/collages address complex issues of colonialism, imperialism, and personal boundaries. Kozloff’s photographs are documentary in style yet also carry highly sophisticated formal arrangements in unexpected colors, patterns, and shapes that give aesthetic interest to the astute compositions of an intrepid traveler. The theme of the collaborative project suggested the global world of travel shared by the two artists and reflects notions of mapping, tourism, and fragmented cultural layering. The exhibition concentrated on the years 1993 to 1999 (Joyce Kozloff) and 1984 to 1998 (Max Kozloff).
