Description	Emerson Woelffer: A Modernist Odyssey presented the first overview selection of this modernist master’s collages, drawings, and paintings on paper. As a West Coast pioneer of free-form styles of abstraction (from cubist-based gestural abstraction to dada-like methods of automatism chance), Woelffer is a bridge to the great figures of European surrealism and American abstract expressionism. His fascination with the possibilities of paper has been fundamental to his vision and thus the works in the exhibition inform his important body of oil paintings, while standing on their own as a primary production.
