Description	The Year of the White Bear was a total installation piece by Coco Fusco and Guillermo Gomez-Pena that integrated a variety of multi- and mixed-media work by eleven artists of color who, through parody, satire, and media appropriations, sought to transform ways of envisioning both the United States and the received history of the "discovery of America." The exhibition was created to address tensions between official government-sponsored celebrations of the quincentenary and the ongoing ideological and political debate about defining national identity and culture.
