BEN MALTZ GALLERY MEDIA RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: APRIL, 2006 Media Contact: Kathy MacPherson, galleryinfo@otis.edu, 310-665-6909 Images are available Otis College of Art and Design is pleased to announce that artist Yamandú Canosa is the Fall 2006 Jennifer Howard Coleman Distinguished Lecturer and Resident in the Fine Arts Department, October 1-November 25, 2006. He is conducting a Master Painting class with junior and senior painting students, one-on-one critiques with undergraduate and graduate students, and presenting two free public lectures for the community in conjunction with a solo exhibition of his work in Otis’ Ben Maltz Gallery. An exhibition of internationally acclaimed artist Yamandú Canosa’s work opens Saturday, October 14, 4-7pm in the Ben Maltz Gallery and is on view through December 9, 2006. The solo exhibition features new paintings, drawings and a site-specific wall mural and is curated by Meg Linton, Director of the Ben Maltz Gallery & Otis Public Programs. A catalogue documenting the exhibition and residency will be available in Spring 2007. Yamandú Canosa was born in Montevideo, Uruguay in 1954. He studied briefly at the Architectural University in Montevideo before moving to Barcelona, Spain in 1975. Represented by Galería Tomás March in Valencia, he has shown extensively throughout Spain as well as in the Netherlands, France and Germany. Most recently, in the United States, he is exhibiting in Picasso to Plensa: A Century of Spanish Art, at the Albuquerque Museum in New Mexico. www.tomasmarch.com This program was created in partnership with The Samuel Goldwyn Foundation to honor the memory of Jennifer Howard Coleman, who was a talented artist and Otis alumna. The program highlights and recognizes prominent contemporary painters by awarding an annual residency and lectureship.
