Forthcoming Catalog
The forthcoming catalog, Meticulosity
(June, 2012), features an essay by
co-curators Meg Linton and John David
O’Brien; full-color reproductions of the
artists’ work; a single poem by poets
Guy Bennett, Dennis Phillips, and
Martha Ronk. The poets were
selected by Paul Vangelisti, Chair, OTIS
Graduate Writing.
Meticulosity features the work of 11 Southern California
based artists and 3 poets who each work in various
genres ranging from painting to installation to digital
formats. The title references both the technical / formal
approach of the artists as well as the spiritual focus
of their creative efforts, their tenacity, and continuity.
The selected artworks were created in a meditative or
highly focused mode or through a trance-like process.
The painstaking kind of exactitude determined by these
works on different orders is something these artists
want the viewer to perceive along with the conceptual
values. We connect that visual meticulousness to a sense
of the ineffable, or that which is beyond words, and to
the meaning of beauty. Special thanks to the Otis Board
of Governors and the Pasadena Art Alliance for helping to
make this project possible.
