FOREWORD In interrupting what heretofore have been annual invitational print shows in order to present this national invitational drawing show, the Otis Art Institute hopes to establish a new pattern of alternating biennial exhibitions of work in both fields. The relationships are obvious; yet the variations and differences are also appreciable and intriguing. The Institute being, as it is, a senior and graduate college of art, although its gallery is open to the public, our planning of its exhibitions gives primary considera· tion to their relevance to the needs of our students. Among those needs is familiarity with current practices in art. Since we offer strong majors both in printmaking and drawing, the need for exhibitions of each is obvious. Wall space considered, as it must be, those artists across the country whose names have been most prominent during the past year in the field of drawing were invited to show two works of their choice in this exhibition. What is seen here, then, is the work sent to us by those artists, or their galleries, who accepted our invitation. We thank them for their participation. ANDREAS S. ANDERSEN, Director Otis Art Institute of Los Angeles County
