INFORMATION Faculty These courses are taught, for the most part, by Otis/ Parsons regular faculty. The college faculty is supplemented by lecturers and critics drawn from the wealth of professional artists and designers in Los Angeles. Admission and Fees Admission is non-selective. No portfolios or academic records are required. However, class sizes are limited and registration forms will be accepted in the order in which they are received. All courses run simultaneously. Therefore, it is only possible to take one course during the summer. Scholarships A limited number of tuition scholarships are available to Pre-College summer students who are unable to provide the full cost of the program. Students may apply for the scholarships by submitting the Scholarship Application together with a portfolio of ten pieces of work no later than June 1st. Scholarship awards are credited towards tuition only and do not cover living or supply expenses for the summer program. Although portfolios will be reviewed as part of the scholarship selection process, financial need will be the primary factor in determining the scholarship awards. Classes and Schedules These courses will be of particular value to those students about to enter their last year of high school. Their purpose is to offer students an opportunity to experience their field of interest, to advance their art and design abilities, and to give guidance in the selection of art study at the college level. All classes meet on a full-time basis from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., five days per week, for 6 weeks. One day per week will be devoted to a special lecture series given by Los Angeles artists and a film series arranged by Otis/Parsons. Housing Otis/Parsons maintains a list of available apartments and dormitory-style rooms in the vicinity of the school. Costs vary, but a reasonable average of $150-$250 can be expected. The staff will be pleased to advise non-commuting students regarding living accommodations. Grading and Credit Students will receive the grade of A, B, C, D or F for work completed in these courses. The grade will become a part of Otis/Parsons permanent files. Transcripts of grades and credits will be available for all purposes of transfer or admission to other institutions. The College is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges andl the National Association of Schools of Art. PHYSICAL FACILITIES AT THE OTIS/PARSONS CAMPUS The Otis Campus of Parsons School of Design is located in the heart of metropolitan Los Angeles, on Wilshire Boulevard at MacArthur Park. It is easily accessible by car and bus. Within a few minutes, by bus or on foot, are the major cultural institutions of Los Angeles: The Los Angeles County Art Museum, the City Library, Philharmonic Auditorium, the Los Angeles Music Center, and the Civic Center. Large, well-lighted and modern studios are characteristic of the three main buildings that comprise this facility. Sculpture workshops and foundry make use of the Southern California climate so that both indoor and outdoor work can take place. The ceramics department is housed in its own building, complete with a multi-kiln firing installation, and a modern support system.
